UNIT 17︎︎︎
To Be Orna-ment To Be
The research speculates the notion of a desertified future in which I suggest we understand these inevitable desolate environments. This can be done by unpacking the nuances and powers that exist within it. In doing so, we can become symbiotic with these environments by working with them, rather than against them. The beauty of nature lies in its self-generating ornament and it is from that self-generative growth that we can learn to work with nature to create.

The research deals with these environments by looking at a grain of sand as a building material and the natural power of wind found in the desert environment as the builder. In doing so, it explores the potential of creating space using the poetic journey of how desert elements move. These creations will then evolve throughout time, expressing and reflecting the constant changing state of the desert.

Using the new found knowledge, I would orchestrate an installation, an expression of land art. Here I will be showcasing the powers of the desert and expressing the nuances I have personally experienced as well as the self-generating nature of natural environments. This is will be for the person that has never been near a desert environment. The goal is to tell a story of what I have experienced in the desert such as light, wind and sound and showcasing how we can work with this sublime environment.
