I am a flaneur, and if you like wandering and find joy in observing those around you, observing things around you, you are a flaneur too.

"Flaneurism", is a rebellion against the mundane cycles of bipedal locomotion, it exists to create an environment in which you can immerse yourself in the multisensory experience of walking. Being present and aware, take time to notice, feel, reflect and breathe.

This project is based on a site in Rosebank, a cosmopolitan neighborhood in Johannesburg with an eclectic vibe merged with commercial, residential, and retail space.

As with many African cities, Johannesburg is security-conscious.

This project seeks to revive the love and interest of walking with the idea being that the more interest there is, the greater the response from those in charge (municipalities and property developers) will be.

This project does not ignore the convalescent state the city and its inhabitants are in. This project instead suggests that “Flaneurism”(acts and social movement towards flaneurie) can serve as a mediator in reconciliation and reconnection.
