Mechanisms of design slowly gather on the horizons surface. Sitting there until everything is covered in it so much so that it all blends together as one cohesive interconnected mass of dull, efficient similarity. It waits for a wind of change or advancement to blow it, and in its displacement the dust storm sweeps across our cities and erodes the very nuances that individualise our peoples.

In the name of efficiency our built identities are lost. What if there is another way? What if technology can be used to isolate, highlight and reinforce cultures through a more humane diffusion model, instead of losing it through parametric and iterative design processes?

The dust is here. It is settling down and shaping our cities, eroding that which defines our cultures as if agent Smith himself escaped the matrix and is living amongst us. But what if we could control the storm? What if we could direct the winds of change and progress and point them to a future where a more sensitive AI can be imagined?

This is a speculative research project that combines 3 aspects of recent technological advancements with film, specifically science fiction and the almost “prophetic” nature of the genre. The aspects are artificial intelligence, brain machine interface and nano technology.
