UNIT 15X
Landscapes of Memory
User experience enhancement through an entry point of texture aims to enhance the narrative and experience of Freedom Park through the haptic senses based on Juhani Pallasmaa’s theory of the senses, specifically focusing on the haptic senses.

The questions that enforce my investigation is how texture has been used in memorial spaces. What I want people to remember on site and how texture can be used for future memorial spaces. The possible points of acupuncture were chosen based on the route that is taken on site. They are either important points or lead to one. The path that leads to the gallery of leaders is the point that I have chosen.

The narrative will be told using symbolisms of textures and patterns from my precedent studies. Such as the crocodile motifs from great Zimbabwe which speak about sacred leadership and the cut from the veterans memorial which speaks about pain and struggle, as well as, geometric designs which reinforce the textures.

The textures on the wall represent the leadership that is shown in the gallery of leaders. Each vertical diamond set of 3 represents 1 leader linking to sacred leadership and the textures inbetween link to young person , old man and woman of great Zimbabwe. Each diamond is filled with v cuts representing pain and the slits coming out of the floor represents struggle when walking on them.
