The Major Design Project investigates the physical and ephemeral elements present in spiritual typologies with the emphasis being on churches and caves. The research investigates the physical and spiritual design characteristics that influences people's behaviour and creates a transcendent experience. The project also looks at ritual performances which occur in these sacred spaces.
Cave and church typologies were researched, and their elements and characteristics are catalogued and curated into a series of atlases. These atlases form the basis for a proposal which aims to inject a sense of wonder and transcendence into a route from the home to a church. The route consists of a series of interventions which aim to show an extrapolation of sacred sites, and an injection of their characteristics into spaces which need a sense of relief, calm or wonder. The route forms a museum of transcendent experiences.
